Going 'on a diet' is not always the best approach to weight loss. How many times have you been on a diet only to put all the weight back on, and more, when you go back to your old way of eating. It has always been thought, that if the number of calories going into the body, were less than the calories being used, you would lose weight, this does not always work.

On severely restricted weight loss diets, the body registers that food is in short supply and slows the metabolism, when you do eat, the body tries to store as much of the food that you eat as fat. Weight loss may be fast on these diets, but when you lose weight quickly, up to a quarter of this can made up of water, muscle and bone - not fat! It may look encouraging when you stand on the scales, but if it is fat loss you are trying to achieve, this may not be the most effective plan.

For many people the belief that 'fat makes you fat' is the reason that low fat diets become their chosen weight loss plan, although some people achieve their weight loss goals through a 'low fat' style of dieting, not enough fat in the diet can lead to deficiencies and various health symptoms. Most people are unaware of just how important certain fats are in the diet, they are essential to good health, and they can actually help you lose weight!

Not all calories are the same, and depending on whether these come from fat, carbohydrates or protein depends on how it affects your weight loss. It is not just the amount of calories and what you eat that can affect your weight, there are several other factors that can have an impact including;
