What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is one of the oldest complementary therapies, and one of the most popular. It is a holistic therapy based on the principal that the entire body is represented in reflexes in the feet and it dates back to 2,500 BC. Reflexology is a safe and gentle therapy that encourages the body to rebalance naturally by working reflex points on the feet. The treatment aids relaxation and this can help to reduce stress, balance hormones and boost immunity. It is suitable for all ages, including babies and children.
How will Reflexology help me?
Reflexology is a great treatment for the mind and body. You don't need to feel unwell to benefit from reflexology. It can improve your well being and help you relax and sleep better leading to positive changes to situations and conditions on a physical and emotional level. Everyone wants to 'feel better' and reflexology can help with that!
The benefits of reflexology are beginning to be scientifically assessed and initial research is indicating that it can have positive benefits for a wide range of conditions including anxiety, stress, depression, back, neck and shoulder pain, migraines, fertility, menopause, insomnia, digestive issues and pain management. As stress is believed to be a factor in approximately 70% of all illnesses, anything we can do to reduce this can be beneficial to good health. Following a treatment, my clients often report feeling much more relaxed and sleep better and notice their mood is improved. Following a series of treatments, the cumulative effect has resulted in quite profound reactions and improvements to both physical and mental health.
If you're not sure if reflexology will work for you, the only way to find out is if you try it. Some of my best clients started off as sceptics!
What happens in a treatment?
On your first visit, I will ask you questions about your medical history and current health before gently cleansing the feet and applying an organic balm to aid movement over the reflexes. The treatment then takes between 45 and 60 minutes and should be relaxing and enjoyable. Any tenderness felt may display reflexology imbalances and these are gently worked out to improve the flow of energy and encourage the body's natural healing process.
